MID-MARSHYANGDI , LAMJUNG TOUR Finally, out of valley cage after years of imprisonment. Feeling the strong breeze out of the coach window in the highway definitely smelt like an air of liberty. Relieved me. What a relish! For days, we had been trying to appeal teachers, Head of Dept. and even campus chief. Nothing worked. We were anxious, eager and inquisitive to break free for two years of electrical study and we had seen nothing of real gadget, the visible circuitry of electrical energy. What more appropriate than a hydroelectric project? We stood on our own, determined to go. Initially, planned for 10-15 ended up yielding 30 including 4 girls. So you know, the trip was anything but the boy’s trip out. We were destined to observe Mid-Marshyangdi Power house, which is now under construction. Good for us, so that we can observe very deep interiors of the plant before all appliances get jacketed. We were so excited about the trip that some of boys including me, Bimal, Bikesh, stayed fortnight at hostel the morning we set off. All night, no sleep, boys buzzing, playing cards CS, God knows I tried but I could not. Dumb me; I forgot there were all vacant rooms around in hostel because of the holidays. Early morning we set off. I will skip the travel description, because it was nothing but just a typical highway travel. You know bus, speed, highway, milestones. You know food. Been about 4 years and ill sleep- got me puking all my breakfast in the bus. Nimisha helped me with some lemons. Thank her! We started 7:30early in the morning. Reached Beshi-Shahar around 2:30 PM. Ashim called his acquaintances for lodge. But the suggested was packed. We divided in groups to search for most comfortable and reasonable lodge around. We found one. It was clean, comfortable and boy’s kind of place you know top floor, nobody around, a roofed balcony. It only meant fun fun fun. I thought I’d settle with top floor boys initially but the last night no sleep trauma really made me scratch head so I settled for downstairs’ boys double bedded room. We freshened up. I took bath with cold water. I, myself, didn’t understand a single word of my own babbling during the bath. Then we went to a nearby Jholunge pul. We went to a nearby teashop, drank freakish Tea. Later only I came to know it was Jau ko chhyang. Then it was all-better even more. Haha. Next, we returned to the lodge, played cards, guys had fetched some rum stuff, I tasted a lot. Haha. Even in the bus, I was trying to sleep and could not so early in the twelve midnight,I retreateded for sleep. Guys were playing call break. And God all that followed made me laugh in my sleep. I woke up around 5 to hear voice of Ashim and Salish. They couldn’t or they weren’t allowed to sleep in the top floor. I knew it and I could see it coming so I implemented plan B & I succeeded with 5 hours sleep. God,I was envied. Also I remember Salish was left out so he knocked at our door. Padma didn’t let guna original member of room in due to houseful reason. Next day/morning, Salish and Guna were humming and dozing wherever they could rest their ass on or head on. Next morning, we were scheduled on 8:30 to visit the plant but everyone /most of boys were out of tune aftermath of alcohol so we didn’t make it. We rescheduled to 1:30 PM. Leisure boys you may say, we all drove to Paundi, where we heard we could swim and I could drown. Haha.Glad I had with me the costume. Knew boys ‘d not resist the water. So for an hour we swam and swam. I basically walked in the water. Hehe. So did Bimal, Vikash, Nischal, who could not swim either. Udbhav learnt to swam. Achievement. We shall have 1 more life guard. Haha. Next, we hurried for the plant. The plant people came to pick up in micro. Then we were guided inside the plant. I will save you guys the technical description inside. The two storey above the ground , 4 storey below the ground the room size alternators. Having accomplished our primary mission, we and other boys were torn y the ideal differences. Some boys not to stay at beshi -shahar, took off in a sandwich micro to Dumre. We had scandals about the transport money. We finally took a public costing 40 per head. We were 20.Some guys were up the hood like Prajwal, Vikash. I should have called him up in cell and told him the fare. He would have jumped right from the micro with the cell..Wouldn’t that have looked ridiculous? We joked. From Dumre, Lama, Vikash, Chandra, Raju parted for Pokhara, their hometowns. While we 14 boys left in a reserved jeep to Bandipur, the haunted village. Haha. Yes, it was creepy. No light, all the way, up the hill. Marco(Bikesh) had made –ol shake we took some sip along the way. After half an hour ride from Dumre, the jeep, guys left us nowhere saying at the gate. We felt so. It was 7 pm, load shedding, not a single light or a sound or a soul around. We trotted on deep. Nearby lodges were all packed so we walked even deeper to settle for an old house lodge bhaktapur kind of. For newars, it isn’t a different view but for others it was a different experience. We weren’t allowed to shout. All of 14 boys stayed on a large room with like 7-8 beds. The food was like rice and the steamed potato and some homemade pickle. We were thinking, Heaven to Hell then boys began telling ghost stories, haunted mansion. Speakers were Salish and Bikesh mainly. Some guys acted like they were going to piss. I believe they were pretending. At least I’d like to think so. Pattu (prajwal) and I went to fetch some –ol into the dark with the only light from our mobile display. With some –ol refreshment, cards, we all slept sound. It was good rest for all the weary boys. Early in the morning, we ventured to find the Bandipur cave, but the twist and turns of the hill from Tin-Dhara Mahadev lured us finally 4 km away from Dumre itself. Bandipur is like 1 hour up from Dumre in bus. Imagine how much we walked along the hils , dada kandas. It was so fun though, like hiking. We were all so lost and then so excited to find the highway eventually. Coincidentally, we met boys left out in Beshi-Shahar on the way on their way back to ktm. We stayed a while, rested and took other bus to ktm. Me, Bimal, Marco, Prajwol, Salish and Guna returned all the way back to ktm on the bus hood. It was so airy, bumpy, and cozy. We slept, talked, drank like all the way. Road safety violation. Haha. We parted our ways from Kalanki. That was the end of it!
